When I first started looking into ways to make money from home, I honestly didn’t think I’d make much — maybe the odd tenner here and there. But with a bit of consistency, trial and error, and a few lucky wins, 2024 turned out to be surprisingly profitable. I ended the year with a total side income of £1,837.95.

This wasn’t a case of getting rich overnight or being paid to promote any particular platform — it was a real mix of matched betting, cashback, surveys, competitions (known as "comping"), and selling things online. I tried to make the most of what I had and fit it all around looking after the kids, housework, and life in general.

If you're curious about how you can do the same, here’s a full month-by-month breakdown of what I earned (or won!) and where it came from.

💸 January – £47.20

I dipped my toes in slowly this month. I earned some cashback through Quidco and TopCashback just by shopping as I normally would (groceries, a few January sale bits). I also made a small amount by selling some old books on eBay. A quiet but promising start.

💕 February – £88.50

This month I took advantage of a few matched betting sign-up offers and landed my first proper competition win — a lovely Valentine’s Day prize. It felt like a boost of confidence that the time I was putting in could actually pay off.

🍫 March – £215.00

March was a big one. I got more comfortable with matched betting, especially reload offers, and it paid off. I also won a huge M&S Easter Egg through a comp which made everyone in the house very happy! This was my first month over £200 and made me feel like I was really onto something.

🍭 April – £32.40

Not every month is massive, and April was a reminder of that. I had a few small survey payouts and, quite randomly, won 200 lollipops! They didn’t bring in cash but certainly brought in smiles. It’s all part of the fun.

👶 May – £76.90

I managed to cash out on Swagbucks, which is one of my go-to survey and cashback sites. I also won a bundle of Milton baby products, which was useful with little ones around. Another steady month.

👗 June – £119.00

I combined matched betting with a clearout on Vinted, selling old clothes I no longer needed. Vinted is great for easy listings, and the matched betting offers helped top things up. It’s all about stacking little wins where you can.

🏨 July – £53.30

July brought a few random wins — Post-it notes, Blu-rays, and hotel cashback. I wasn’t expecting much this month, so anything was a bonus. Cashback on a family trip was a nice surprise.

🧾 August – £600.00

This was my best month of the year by far. I focused heavily on matched betting reload offers and managed to stack several profitable promotions. I also did a mini eBay clearout, getting rid of toys and household bits. It felt good to declutter and earn at the same time.

🐦 September – £92.15

Back to school season! I got cashback from school supplies and won a lovely birdhouse in a comp. Swagbucks added to the total with a few paid surveys. A nice mix of earnings and wins again.

👑 October – £164.70

I continued matched betting and had some good reloads. The real standout was winning a pair of luxury tights in a comp — one of those things I wouldn’t normally splurge on but loved having. It’s a nice reminder that comping isn’t just about money — sometimes it’s about treats you wouldn’t usually buy yourself.

📀 November – £29.00

Things were quieter in November. I still did a few surveys and won another Blu-ray, but there weren’t many high-paying offers around. Still, it's always nice to see something rather than nothing come in.

🎄 December – £318.80

Christmas came early with a bunch of wins from Christmas competitions, plenty of cashback from festive shopping, and a handful of eBay sales. This was a fantastic way to wrap up the year and helped ease the cost of presents.

🎉 Grand Total for 2024: £1,837.95

Not bad for something I squeezed in around real life — no bosses, no set hours, and all done from my laptop or phone while the kids were playing or asleep.

Final Thoughts

What I’ve learned most this year is that making money from home really is possible, even without any special skills or massive spare time. It’s about experimenting with different methods — some will flop, some will fly. It’s also a lot more fun when you treat it like a hobby that occasionally pays rather than putting pressure on it to be a full-time income (unless that’s your goal!).
